Nasarawa to evacuate refuse dumps abandoned for over 40 years

The Nasarawa State Government has approved the evacuation of refuse dumps in five local government areas.

The dumps, some of which have been not been evacuated for over 40 years thereby taking large chunks of residential areas, are located in Keffi, Akwanga, Nasarawa, Doma and Lafia LGAs.

Mr Abubakar Madaki, director general, Nasarawa State Waste Management and Sanitation Authority (NASWAMA), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Karu LGA on Wednesday.

Mr Madaki, who spoke through the NASWAMA secretary, Mr Christopher Abari, said the special evacuation exercise followed a special request.

He said, “Aside other routine sanitation and waste management activities that the authority is carrying out, this is a special request with special attention.”
