Nasarawa spends N350m on school meals

The Nasarawa State government spends N350 million annually to feed students in public secondary schools.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Fatu Sabo, said this in Lafia during the distribution of food items to 29 boarding secondary schools.

She said the government spent over N29 million monthly on the feeding of students in all the state-owned public boarding secondary schools.

Hajiya Fatu said as part of the ongoing reforms in the education sector, the state government has made feeding a priority.

She called on principals to ensure judicious use of the food items as the ministry would take punitive action against any reported case of food diversion.

The food items distributed included rice, beans, yam, palm oil, groundnut oil, maize among others.
