Nasarawa seeks FG takeover of N10bn cargo airport

The Nasarawa State government says it is working out an arrangement with the federal government to refund and take over the just completed N10 billion Lafia Cargo Airport.

Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this while inaugurating two committees on reconciliation and strategy to reposition the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) preparatory to the 2023 general elections.

The building of the airport started during the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Sule said, “We are working on how the federal government can take over it. We can seek its complete take-over by the federal government by paying us back the N10bn. The aim is not just to get our N10bn back and leave a dead airport; we want to make sure that even after the FG pays us, we will make sure that the airport is being used.”

The governor listed some of the key achievements of his administration to include completing the Lafia Cargo Airport, the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technical Institute, and the Yahaya Sabo Mega Bus Terminal.

He used the occasion to appeal to residents to support his second term bid in office to enable him to complete the transformational projects embarked upon by his administration.

He, however, emphasised the need for the members of the two committees to ensure that the APC emerged victorious in the general elections.
