Nasarawa school wins spelling contest, to compete in Dubai

Students of Intimacy with Christ International School in Nasarawa state have won the senior and junior categories of the 9th edition of a national spelling bee.

After winning the competition organised by Peat Philips Foundation, the school will also represent Nigeria in another competition in Dubai.

Thirteen-year-old Agbo Divine Capable and 11-year-old Solomon Ojotumale, were declared winners of the two categories respectively.

David Kate Ene, 14, of the same school clinched the second position in the senior category while Fakande David 11, of The Truth Academy, Lagos came second in the junior category.

Charles David of Greater Tomorrow International School, Ondo state and Odunlami Temiloluwa Janet of Bopton Nursery and Primary School, Lagos got third place in the senior and junior categories.

Commenting, the Team Lead of the Foundation, Akinleye Olu-Philips, said the competition helps to build the total being by improving their critical reasoning skills. He added that it boosts their composure and encourages reading. “A reader is a great scholar,” he said.

He also said the winners will represent Nigeria at the inter-continental spelling bee competition in Dubai.
