Police Rescue Ex-Cross River Councillor in Nasarawa, Recover AK-47 Rifle

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a former councillor in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Mr Anthony Duke Effiom.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, said one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine was recovered during the arrest.

The PPRO explained that at about 9:50 pm, , on Tuesday, the police received a distress call that yet-to-be-identified gunmen barricaded the road at Kurmin Shinkafa along Akwanga-Keffi expressway and abducted Effiom.

According to him, “Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adesina Soyemi drafted the personnel of the command attached to Garaku Division, all the tactical teams of the Command in collaboration with operatives of the Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Response Team to go after the kidnappers.

“Consequently, on Saturday at about 1 am, the operatives trailed the abductors to their hideout at Angwan Maigini Village, where the personnel engaged them in a gun battle. Succumbing to the superior firepower, the hoodlums escaped into the forest at various locations with varying degrees of injuries and the victim was rescued unhurt by the police.”
