Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars and Enyimba are aiming at victories in today’s week 36 matches to at least delay Akwa United’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title celebration.
The ‘Promise Keepers’ are leading the chasing pack with 67 points and will garner an unassailable 70 points, if they win the week 36 match against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.
However, if Akwa United slip in Nnewi and Nasarawa, Pillars and Enyimba all on 61 points record victories at Dakkda FC, Kwara United and Lobi Stars, the race for the 2021 NPFL title will continue till the final round of matches.
While focusing on delaying Akwa United’s party, Kano Pillars will also be looking across their shoulders as Enyimba ready to displace them from the third spot, if they falter again in Ilorin.
The goal difference that is separating Kano Pillars from Enyimba is only four and on a good day, the former African champions can conveniently get the goals in a single game to pull down the ‘Masu gida’ boys.
Nasarawa United with a massive goal difference of plus 16 are not as exposed to the danger of completely losing out of the available continental ticket as Kano Pillars.
While the top four jostle for continental tickets, the other half of the table where relegation battles are being fought will also be busy in week 36.
Third from bottom, Warri Wolves will be guests of fellow strugglers, Jigawa Stars in Kaduna, FC IfeanyiUbah host Akwa United, Sunshine Stars battle Plateau United in Akure, Wikki Tourists welcome Heartland while already relegated Adamawa United visit Abia Warriors in Aba.
Meanwhile, fifth placed Rivers United will travel to Lagos to face MFM and Rangers will have their hands full in Enugu with resurgent Katsina United.
