Nasarawa monarchs condole Ortom as Ochi’Idoma goes on ‘hunting expedition’

The Nasarawa State traditional council on Wednesday condoled with Governor Samuel Ortom and the Benue State traditional council over the ‘hunting expedition’ embarked upon by the Ochi’Idoma, Dr Elias Ikoyi Obekpa.

Obekpa’s demise has not been officially announced by the Idoma traditional council but a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Benue State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Adam Idu, last week indicated the appointment of an acting Ochi’Idoma by the state governor.

To this end, a delegation led by the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo, accompanied by other monarchs of the Nasarawa State chiefdom, paid a condolence visit to Benue.

Emir Chindo, who also presented a condolence letter to Governor Ortom from the Governor of Nasarawa State, described the news of Och’Idoma’s passing as unfortunate incident for Benue, Nasarawa and the entire country.

The royal father, in his remarks, expressed hope that the “conflict entrepreneurs who are benefitting from the farmers-herders crises will one day regret”.

He stressed that the Tiv and Fulanis were made by God and cannot separate.

Governor Ortom, while receiving the delegation, urged the Fulanis in Nigeria to speak out against the invasion of communities by their kinsmen from foreign countries.

Ortom explained that the Tiv people, Fulanis and other Nigerians had lived together peacefully until foreign Fulanis were allowed to move into the country unchecked to cause the current violence being witnessed in the country.

He, however, expressed appreciation for the visit.
