The 13 Local Government Areas in Nasarawa State, have shared N1. 65 billion for the payment of staff salaries for the month of June.

Mr Haruna Illiya-Osegba, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made this disclosure to newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia after the state’s Local Government Joint Account Committee and stakeholders’ meeting.

He explained that the LGAs in the state got N1.5 billion from the federation account for the month of June.

“The wage bill of the council areas stood at N2.2 billion, making the current allocation insufficient to pay full salaries to the workers.

“The joint account meeting had agreed that the ministry should augment the amount with N150 million from the Paris Club refund to enable LGAs and Development Areas pay workers between 60 and 80 per cent of their salaries.

“Based on this agreement, the least any worker at the LGA level would receive as
June salary is 60 per cent while the maximum is 80 per cent respectively,” he added.

He called on the workers for understanding, patience and support, as government was working to ameliorate their plight.

Illiya-Osegba also implored Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts at getting the country out of the current economic recession. (NAN)
