Barrister Abdullahi Ubandoma, leader of a coalition of youth groups of Kanuri extraction, who addressed journalists in Lafia, said there has been a systematic suppression of the tribe in federal appointments, calling on both Buhari and Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to address the perceived marginalisation.
“We, the Kanuri indigenes of Lafia Central, have been grounded and systematically marginalised in terms of federal appointments by previous administrations and especially, have never been considered for ministerial appointment for all these years despite our enormous contributions to the state and the nation at large,” Barrister Ubandoma said.
He said the creation of Nasarawa State from the old Plateau State in 1996 has not benefitted the tribe, giving the appointment of ministers which has eluded them, as one of the reasons for the outcry.
