The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Ahmad Mohammed said this when he visited the company on Friday in Lafia.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMDC was established some years ago to coordinate the exploration of mining activities in the state.

Mohammed said government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the company took its rightful place.

The commissioner, who noted that Nasarawa was known as the Home of Solid Minerals, said the state government had articulated plans to reposition the company to enhance mining activities in the state.

He said that mineral exploration was “a veritable tool for economic transformation” as it would create employment opportunities and diversify means of income for the state.

The Acting General Manager of the company, Alhaji Jibrin Ahmed, said the company had not been able to discharge its responsibility due to daunting challenges that had bedevilled its operations.

According to him, the company needs government intervention to enable it to acquire an exploration licence that will guarantee partnership with other bodies.

The commissioner was also at the Nasarawa State Cooperative Development Agency where the General Manager, Abdullahi Sogiji intimated him about the activities and challenges confronting the agency.

On the fate of Lafia Modern Market, the commissioner said the government was unable to inaugurate the market as scheduled due to “unforeseen circumstances”. (NAN)
