In an effort to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy and enhance gas usage, Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule has laid the foundation for the establishment of a Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) and Liquefied Compressed Natural Gas(LCNG) facility in Lafia, the state capital.
Daily Trust reports that the 2 million US dollars investment, which has the capacity of 23 metric tons of LNG and 1,500 SCM of LCNG is spearheaded by Greenville LNG and said to be the first of its kind in the North Central region of the country.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Lafia, Governor Sule revealed that Nigeria has only about 40 billion barrels of oil reserves, noting that the nation has over two hundred trillion standard cube of gas reserves.
“We are indeed delighted to commemorate with Greenville LNG Company for being able to come to Nasarawa State to set up this particular project.
“We have gone through a lot to sign an agreement with the NNPC about our gas projects being utilised in Nasarawa State. We have had summits that attracted companies like Greenville to come in and see the opportunities we have here in Nasarawa State.”
Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA), Ibrahim Abdullah said the project would be a springboard to other businesses as it fits into the industrialisation agenda of the Nasarawa State government.
The ceremony also witnessed the official handover of the CoFO for the project, which was facilitated by the state’s one-stop shop, the Nasarawa State Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA).
