Nasarawa State Government on Tuesday said it spends three hundred and fifty million Naira annually to feed students in public boarding schools in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Fatu Sabo, disclosed this in Lafia at the distribution of food items to 29 boarding schools across the state.
She said the state government spends over N29million monthly on the feeding of students in all the state-owned public boarding secondary schools.
Hajiya Fatu Sabo said that as part of the ongoing reforms in the education sector, the state government has made feeding of students its utmost priority.
She called on principals of all boarding public schools in the state to ensure judicious use of the food items as the ministry would take punitive action against any reported case of food diversion.
The food items distributed included rice, beans, yam, palm oil, groundnut oil, and maize, among others.
