Nasarawa govt charged to diversify revenue base

The Nasarawa State Government has been called upon to diversify its vast and abundant human and natural resources to boost its revenue profile instead of soliciting for financial assistance from corporate organisations.

An entrepreneur in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Yunusa Ombugu Anga, told Aso Chronicle that, “The state is blessed with many types of natural resources like gold, coal and marble.

“The state also has many farmers and youths that could be propelled to lift the state to greater heights for empowerment, self-reliance, economic boom and revenue generation.”

SPONSOR AD

Alhaji Anga said Gov. Abdullahi Sule ought to look inwards by picking among the endowed intellectuals with all the professional knowledge to assist him in harnessing the natural resources that God had endowed the state with rather than soliciting financial assistance.

It would be recalled that Gov. Sule was quoted as saying, “If the state does not have the money, we must think outside the box.”

The governor told the national officials of the Lafia Old Students Association (LOSA) when they paid him a courtesy call recently that his administration was reaching out to corporate organisations and individuals to help renovate dilapidated schools in the state.

Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman, Ibrahim Addra said, “It is a good thing when citizens who mean well for the state offer advice to government. The governor has always maintained that the task of building the state is a collective one.

“It is also important to state that globally, corporate organisations are partners in development, which contributions at the end of the day are beneficial to the state and its people. Such contributions should not be turned down, especially that they are not asking for anything in return.”
