Nasarawa govt approves car, motorcycle grants for magistrates

The Nasarawa State government has approved N50 million for magistrates in the state to buy cars and motorcycles.

Chairman of Magistrates Association of Nigeria (MAN) in the state, Magistrate Abdullahi H. Shams Shama, disclosed this when he led the executive members on a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule at government house Lafia.

“The visit is to appreciate the governor for assisting the magistrates with the sum of N50 m to procure vehicles, the approval is a dream come true,” he said.

He said the governor has set the pace in the country through the tripartite arrangement, and urged him to harmonise the allowances law of 2015 for magistrates.

In his response, Governor Sule said, “The government appreciates the role being played by magistrates in the state towards curbing criminality. When I heard that magistrates go to court on commercial motorcycles, I quickly approved the grant of N50m to assist them.

“That was to immediately cushion the loan facilities of N100,000,000 (one hundred million naira) obtained from the bank and the conveyance will be made immediately.”

The governor said he was willing and ready to do more for the magistrates by ensuring that the issue of welfare of magistrates is looked into as it relates to harmonised allowances.
