Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has given security agencies in the state a 7-day ultimatum to fish out the armed bandits that killed 16 people in Numa Kochu village of Akwanga local government area.
He gave the order on when he visited the injured victims at Akwanga General Hospital on Tuesday.
He said: “I promised that the government would treat the incident with all the seriousness it deserves. The attack was unwarranted and worrisome owing to the fact that the state has enjoyed relative peace in the last three years. This is something we are going to take seriously.
“We are going to have a Security Council meeting and I have already directed security operatives to ensure that they fish out these people and bring them to book.
“I need to know who the perpetrators of this act are and I have given seven days ultimatum to security agencies to bring the bandits to book because we want to use that as a deterrent to any group of people who have this propensity for killing people unnecessarily.”
Governor Al-Makura has also directed that a security base be stationed in the troubled area to enhance security in the community.
He noted that the state government would foot the medical and funeral bills of the victims as well as send relief materials to the village.
