The Naraguta Elders Council in Jos North LGA of Plateau State yesterday condemned an attack on a state government committee set up to resolve issues of land encroachment.
The elders said the act of lawlessness shown by some overzealous youths when the committee visited to resolve a matter on Wednesday was prompted by those who do not want a peaceful resolution.
A statement issued by the Council’s Secretary, Ibrahim Shehu Mohammed, stated that while the elders were aware of pending issues concerning certain portions of the land in question that bordered on non-payment of compensation, the elders believed that taking the law into their hands and lawlessness shown by some of the youth does not augur well for the process.
