The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police in Italy have agreed to collaborate in curbing human trafficking from Nigeria to Italy. 

This was the outcome of a strategic meetings held in Italy between a delegation from NAPTIP led by the Director-General, Julie Okah-Donli and officials of various Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) of Italy. 

The NAPTIP delegation met with the head of the Italian Anti-Mafia and Terrorism department; officials of the Public Safety Department; the Italian Police; the Prosecutors of Palermo and Catania Sicily, handling trafficking and smuggling in migrant issues and investigations amongst others. 

In a statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr Josiah Emerole, Julie Okah Donli ýexplained that the meetings were sequel to plans by NAPTIP to partner authorities of destination countries and jointly draw a road map to curb the businesses of those, who traffic Nigerians to Europe.

The statement said the Italians raised the issue of protection for threatened family members of rescued victims in Nigeria.
