Naomi Campbell pens down note following Wizkid’s Grammys loss

British model, Naomi Campbell who happens to be close friends with Wizkid has taken to social media to share her opinion following his loss at the 2022 Grammy awards. In her note, she mentioned that she was dissatisfied with the outcome and also didn’t hold back when it came to criticizing the Recording Academy on her Instagram page, accusing the committee of ignoring what was going on in the universe.

Afrobeats, she believes, is deserving of a Grammy category. To avoid isolating the genre under the global music category, she requested the Recording Academy to create subcategories such as Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, among others.

She wrote that, “Changing World to Global is not Enough. get up to speed on the state of all popular music and include Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and all the subcategories that this genre so deserves – just as any other respected and recognized musical genre. #MadeinLagos Album and the song Essence was clearly in the wrong category. How can you ignore the song Essence by Wizkid and Tems that was covered and remixed by Justin Bieber, you seem to isolate under global, when it should have been in song of the year category.
