The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) has after extensive deliberations about petitions received from concerned Nigerian Students, suspended NANS President, Usman Barambu.

Barambu was suspended over allegations of serial abuse of office, gross misconduct, corrupt aggrandizement, interference with the convention planning committee and lack of accountability.

This was contained in a statement by Comrade John Emperor, Chairman of JCC and Comrade Yusuf Mohammed, Secretary of JCC.

The JCC led by its Chairman has however constituted a high powered committee to thoroughly investigate these claims.

“In a view to ensure a fair, transparent process and unhindered investigation, the NANS President, Usman Barambu has been suspended pending the conclusion and presentation of the investigative committee report, which would give room for an unimpeded probe into NANS finances and properties.

“The allegations under review include the misappropriation of money donated by His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, during the NANS Pre-Convention/Senate meeting in Owerri, Imo state. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the unaccounted Coaster Bus worth 120,000,000 (One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira) donated to NANS Secretariat by Tertiary Education Trust Funds (TETFUND),” the statement read in part.

The JCC said the integrity of the investigation remains paramount and that due process will be followed to the later in order to ascertain the true situation of things.

“The NANS President would remain suspended until the investigative committee submits its report and findings to the Joint Campus Council, which will subsequently determine the appropriate course of action,” the statement added.
