NANS gives FG 7-day ultimatum over ASUU strike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday gave the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to resolve issues and honour agreements reached with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in October 2017 or face mass action by students across the country.

While addressing a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday, NANS Spokesman, Azeez Adeyemi, took a swipe at the federal government for what they called the insensitivity of the government on the plights of the striking lecturers and the revitalization of the education sector

According to him, the students will not fold their arms and watch their future being mortgage by the “lackadaisical approach towards education at all levels in the country by the government.”

He commended the resilience of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) who have been on strike in the past two months.

“We will not fold our arms and allow our institutions to be short for months again because of Federal Government insensitivity and lackadaisical approach towards education at all level in Nigeria,” Adeyemi said.
