The Gombe State Students’ Association (GOSSA) has distributed foodstuffs to students of tertiary institutions in Gombe State, to cushion the effect of the current economic difficulties being experienced in the country.
The food items that include; 200 bags of rice, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, 50 bags of sugar and 100 cartons of spaghetti, as well as 10,000 exercise books, were donated to the GOSSA by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Speaking at the flagging off the distribution at the Gombe State University (GSU), the NEDC Coordinator in the state, Rufa’i Lawan Baba-Manu said the commission made the donation through the GOSSA, to bring succour to the students, especially with the ongoing naira scarcity.
“The NEDC found it worthy to bring succour to students. Because the issue we are having now is the issue of exchange of the new naira notes. People could not even access the bank before they could even buy something to feed.
“So, he found it necessary to deliver these items to the students, who are also part of the vulnerable group in the society. We are using GOSSA for easy access to the students,” he said.
Receiving the items, the National President of GOSSA, Comrade Adamu Hina commended the NEDC for the gesture, saying the food items would help in ameliorating the hardship faced by students, “especially at this trying moment.”
