Naira redesign: CBN insists policy is for greater good

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has appealed to Nigerians experiencing difficulties accessing cash to be patient as the apex bank is working hard to improve distribution of the new notes.

The Director, Corporate Communication, CBN, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, made the call when a group of peaceful protesters stormed the CBN headquarters in a solidarity walk yesterday.

Protesters under the aegis of Pro Nigeria Group had stormed parts of Abuja, including the Unity Fountain and the CBN in support of the CBN policy on Naira redesign.

He said the policy is not political but for the greater good of the country that there is no going back.

“We are fully persuaded that what we are doing is for the benefit of the Nigerian people. We are apolitical. What we know is that this isn’t targeted at anybody. The CBN wil see through this policy. I can assure you” he said.

The convener of Pro Nigeria Group, Mr. Isaac Balami, said the group backed the CBN policy as it’s good for the economy.

“The CBN had given 10 days extensions and the politicians in this country are trying to play politics, to blackmail the CBN and possibly blackmail the president to go back on his words. We are here to support the CBN monetary policy. This policy by the CBN will stop votes buying. Vote buying is a major problem and it has destroyed Nigeria. Enough is Enough” emphasized.
