The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed its special forces to the coastal areas of Bayelsa State as part of its efforts to enhance security of lives and property in the Niger Delta region.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, who disclosed this during his official working visit to Bayelsa Mobility Command in Yenagoa, during the weekend, stated that more officers would be added to the Special Forces to boost the aerial surveillance of the area.
Abubakar, who also paid courtesy visit to Governor Seriake Dickson, disclosed that personnel of the force were combat ready to safeguard communities in the region.
He explained that the deployment of more airmen and women was necessary in the move to tackle security challenges not only in Bayelsa and Niger Delta region alone, but the country at large.
According to him, “We have recently deployed Special Forces to Bayelsa and we intend to do more as soon as we resolved issues of accommodation.
“We are working hard to reposition the force because we need an Air Force that has the right structure, right to manpower disposition, an Air Force that has the right capability to deal with challenges of 21st century,” Abubakar stated.
