N8m up for grabs in Chief of Defence Staff basketball tourney

At least 16 top clubs in Nigeria are set to battle for the N8m cash prize in the Nigeria at 64 basketball championship organised by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa in Abuja.

The tournament is scheduled to hold from October 2-6, 2024, at the Mo Arena, Wuse Zone 5 Abuja.

The championship is expected to showcase the best of Nigerian basketball talents, with teams competing fiercely for the coveted trophy.

Organisers have said basketball enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed five days of thrilling matches and sportsmanship.

The organisers also said the championship which is in commemoration of Nigeria’s Independence aims to promote unity, teamwork, and healthy competition among Nigerian basketball teams.

The 16 top teams that will be vying for honours in the CDS’ Basketball Championship aare Kada Stars, Kano Pillars, Gombe Bulls, Niger Porters, Kwara Falcons, Dodan Warriors, Civil Defence and FCT Hard Rockers.

Others are Novena, Heartlanders, City Chiefs, Marktown Flyers, Gilali, Rivers Hoopers, Armed Forces, Bauchi Nets and Nigerian Customs.

The clubs will compete in two groups of five teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.

Organisers have also said the Chief of Defence Staff has given his assurance that the tournament would be hitch-free.

Winners of the tournament would take home N4m, runners up N2.5m while N1.5m would go to the third place team.
