N585m ‘fraud’: Stop insulting Nigerians, Falana tells Betta Edu

A human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, on Sunday asked Edu to stop insulting Nigerians by claiming that the allegation of a N585 million scam was unfounded.

Falana, in a statement, said that while Edu had not denied approving the payment of the money “in contravention of the extant Public Service Rules as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Act and the Penal Code applicable in the Federal Capital Territory,” she refused to apologise to the government and Nigeria and resign “for betraying the confidence reposed in her.”

He said though the Accountant-General of the Federation “has effectively foiled the illicit diversion of N585.18 million from the public treasury, it is apparent from the minister’s leaked note that the offence of an attempt to commit a felony has already been performed.”
