The Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club has launched a N50 million fund for the equipping of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital’s oncology centre.

The club had during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria last year donated a 20-bed oncology treatment ward to the hospital to attend to children battling cancer, but the centre is yet to be operational due to lack of equipment.

Speaking at the launching in Abuja, the club’s outgoing President, Mr Aniekan Michael, said over N30m was expended on the centre, hence that the targeted N50m fund was to equip the centre to be fully operational.

He further said paediatric, cancer, diabetes, environment, optics and hunger were five focal areas of the club.
