The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has said the officers of the service will work tirelessly to achieve the N5.1 trillion revenue target set by the federal government for the service in 2024.

Adeniyi stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the decoration of the newly promoted officers of the service.

He said, “The year 2024 is full of expectations especially on the Nigeria Customs Service in terms of revenue and trade facilitation and the service is ready to harness its manpower to meet those expectations.

“Last year, Customs remitted N3.2 trillion into the federation account and this year the target is N5.1 trillion and I believe the promotion exercise will serve as a motivation for our officers to work together in achieving the target.”

The Customs boss further stated that the service will be deploying technology to improve border security and trade facilitations at the port.

Speaking on the promotion, Adeniyi stated that the exercise was run based on merit and a determination to prove to the officers that “henceforth, they will only be promoted by what they know and not who they know.”

He added that the exercise serves the purpose of both staff motivation and welfare, while calling on the newly promoted officers to work collaboratively in achieving the agency’s mandate.

Meanwhile, the revenue generated by the Kaduna State Customs Area Command in 2023 was N16,378,179,323.89 billion, compared to N13,432,457,630.68 in 2022.

Cumulatively, the revenue generated by the command in the year 2023 is N16,378,179,323.89 billion, compared to N13,432,457,630.68.”

According to the command, this indicates an increase of N2,945,721,693.21 billion, translating to a 21.93% increase compared to that of the year 2022.

The Area Command Comptroller, Tijjani Abe, quoted in the statement, reiterated that the office of the Customs Area Controller is accessible to all importers/exporters, excise traders, Customs Clearing Agents, Terminal Operators, and other stakeholders.
