A Chinese engineering company, Eighteenth Engineering Company, has said the first flyover bridge in the North-East region being constructed in Maiduguri, Borno State, will be ready for use by September this year.
The construction of the N4.2 billion overhead bridge was awarded to the Chinese company in 2019 by the Borno State Government.

The managing director of the company, Mr Qim Weiguo, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, said construction work at the site had attained 63 per cent completion and will be ready for use by September.
Weiguo said the bridge was among the over 107 projects worth over N163billion the company had successfully undertaken across the country since 1999 when it began operation in Nigeria.
He noted that despite the delay in the site due to nationwide lockdown last year, the work had attained significant progress.
He said the project was being constructed in line with global standards, which the company is known for worldwide.
The bridge, which was designed to ease the perennial gridlock at the Customs roundabout in Maiduguri, as well as link the city to international highways leading to Cameroon and parts of Central Africa, was initially expected to be completed within 18 months.
