A former Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, Major-General Umaru Mohammed, has approached the Supreme Court after losing his appeal over alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the company.
Although the Court of Appeal cleared Mohammed of a forgery charge linked to the case, it upheld his conviction and sentence for offences related to stealing and criminal misappropriation.
It would be recalled that the former senior officer was convicted on October 10, 2023, by a Special Court Martial sitting at the Army Headquarters Garrison in Abuja.
He was dismissed from the Nigerian Army, sentenced to imprisonment, and ordered to refund $2,099,700 and N1,650,172,000 to the company.
Dissatisfied with the verdict, Mohammed filed an appeal on February 12, 2025, in a suit marked CA/ABJ/CR/383/2025, arguing that the conviction was not supported by credible evidence.
However, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal—Justices Abba Bello Mohammed, Okon Efreti Abang, and Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike—dismissed his arguments, ruling that the evidence before the court martial clearly established the offences.
Mohammed has now filed a motion at the Supreme Court seeking leave to appeal the appellate court’s decision and overturn the judgment of the Special Court Martial.
