The Organised Ndokwa Effort (ONE), a registered non-profit, non-political organization, led by sons and daughters of Ndokwa in promoting the wellbeing of Ndokwa people in the Niger Delta, has called on the federal government to involve host communities in pipeline surveillance in order to achieve the desired results.

The group said Ndokwa land as a major oil and gas producing hub in the Niger Delta, with a network of several pipelines which are easily accessible on the earth surface and at various depths across the over 67Km of the OB3 pipeline, protecting the petroleum industry’s critical economic assets in high threat areas across their region must be encouraged.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by Ossai Udom, chairman of ONE, said “the strong youths of the various host communities in Ndokwa should be appreciated, commended, and encouraged for their great efforts in ensuring that the area does not engage in oil and gas pipeline vandalization or illegal refinery.”

Daily Trust Saturday reports that the award of contract for pipeline surveillance to ex-Niger Delta militant Tompolo had raised dust in some communities who felt that they were not carried along.

The group at the meeting attended by youths, community leaders and elders of Ndokwa, said that government should involve them in safeguarding the right of way of the pipelines within their areas against migrate pipeline vandals, fleeing from neighbouring communities where their operating bases are being closed.
