N/Central groups ask court to remove Ganduje as APC chair

Two North Central groups have filed suits seeking to nullify Abdullahi Ganduje’s national chairmanship position in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders, in a letter to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) dated April 30, sought the restoration of the party’s zoning arrangement, which designated the chairmanship to the North Central zone.

The letter, which was signed by Muhammed Saidu Etsu, Gbenga Lubem, AbdulGaniyu Lukman, Bagu Bung Jung, Isa Abubakar Imam, and Mohammed Kabiru Idris, raised concerns over Ganduje’s continued chairmanship, citing violations of the APC Constitution and the consensus reached at the 2022 National Convention that the National Chairman from 2022 to 2026 must be from the North Central Geopolitical Zone.

In an originating summons filed by Etsu on behalf of the group through their counsel, Joshua Oka Obono Obla, the group argues that Ganduje’s appointment by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on August 3, 2023, following Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation, contravened the party’s constitution.

They are asking the court to set aside Ganduje’s appointment as the APC National Chairman, alleging that the APC failed to comply with the procedure laid down by the party’s constitution.

Defendants in the suit include Ganduje, the APC, the NEC of the APC, and the NWC of the APC.

Similarly, the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum, represented by their counsel, Ayuba Abdul, filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja challenging Ganduje’s nomination to replace Adamu in 2023.

No hearing date has been fixed for the suits.
