‘My son did nothing to deserve such gruesome murder’–Father of slain graduate

The father of the 34-year old graduate of the Nigerian Maritime Academy (NMA), Oron, Mohammed Danjuma, who was allegedly beaten to death in Sokoto said his son did nothing to deserve such treatment.

Speaking to Daily Trust on Monday, the father, Sidi Danjuma, said that his son was gruesomely murdered on July 7, 2022, and some suspects were arrested. “But five months after, the suspects have been seen walking around freely,” he alleged.

Danjuma who noted that there was a trending video showing how his son was murdered, said he was handcuffed, tortured and dehumanised.

The father further alleged that the families of the suspects once reached out to them begging for amicable resolution of the matter devoid of police involvement.

“But I told them to allow justice to prevail as no resolution will bring my son to life. They left and promised to get back to me.

“To my dismay, they came back after two previous failed appointments and offered me N600,000 as compensation for the life of my son, which I rejected because if they are to offer me monetary compensation, Islamically, it is not this paltry N600,000.” he said

Danjuma has, therefore, called on the Sokoto State Government, the Inspector General of Police, human rights organisations and the media to help get justice for his son.”

Our reporter could not reach spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command for confirmation, but his second in command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’I, said he was not aware of the case.
