President Muhammadu Buhari has said his performance in the energy sector is unprecedented.

Buhari who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, stated this at the 6th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2023) in Abuja with the theme: Global Perspectives for a Sustainable Energy Future.

The president noted that the Presidential Transition Council, which Mustapha chairs, has almost completed the handover note.

“The volume of work that has been achieved under President Buhari particularly under the energy sector is unprecedented. My hope is that whatever you have for the purposes of the incoming administration to get to work on the 30th of May, do not hesitate to get it to the permanent secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, to convey those documents to us on the areas of intervention you want the incoming government to work on as quickly as possible, so that president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can get straight to work on the sustainability of the reforms that have been brought on board,” he said.

Buhari also said the government has achieved several oil and gas projects by implementing the ease of doing business strategy, including the new Dangote Refinery.

The national host and Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and Renewable Energy, Mr Muhammed Ahmed, said NNPC has invested heavily in critical gas infrastructure such as the Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and the OB3 gas interconnector to support 5Bscf/d of domestic gas utilisation and power generation.

Kyari also said Nigeria was ramping up the gas export market as the on-going NLNG Train 7 will expand LNG production capacity to about 30 million tons per annum (30 MTPA).

“This is in addition to the planned Nigerian Morocco and the Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline projects which will supply gas to sub-regional African countries and subsequently Europe,” he said.
