My marital affair not for public dissection – Hafsat Shehu

She made this assertion in a telephone interview with our reporter in Kano saying publicizing marital issues in the media is an indication of illiteracy and being uncivilized, adding that she would not comment on the issue as her ex-husband, Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad, did.

The actress married Alhaji Jamilu, an Abuja based business man, after the demise of her first husband and Kannywood star, Ahmed S. Nuhu. The marriage was contracted after two weeks courtship and has since been on the rocks with the actress announcing on radio that the marriage was over for good.

Two weeks ago, associates of Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad came out to deny Hafsat’s claim, insisting the marriage was still intact, though there was a divorce proceeding before a court of law.

She said, “I know it is not Jamilu’s friends or associates that fabricated all sorts of stories being published in the media but Jamilu himself and this is because I know very well what he can do. I know his kind of thinking and that is why I am not going to do the same because I am not an illiterate.”

Hafsat further said she has filed the case before a court of law claiming damages from Alhaji Jamilu, adding that only the court can intervene in the matter.

The actress further said her resolve on the issue is based on the fact that media reports could be documented and could also affect her future relationships as she is planning to get married anytime soon.

“I will not comment on the issue because I see no reason why the issue should frequently be in the media. I feel it is not good for me because I am planning to get married any time from now,” she said.

Her recent claim of not wanting her marital troubles in the media might appear contradictory to the public because the whole issue was made public when she granted an interview to a Kaduna FM station as well as Kannywood magazine claiming that her marriage has been dissolved.

It was in reaction to this claim that the close associates of Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad issued a statement saying the marriage was not dissolved, adding that Hafsat decided to vacate Alhaji Jamilu’s house when he decided to take another wife early last year.
