The president of a grade C customary court sitting in Oja-Oba Ibadan, Chief Ademola Odunade, has dissolved a five-year-old marriage between Sheriff Kanisuru and his wife, Adedayo.
The arbitrator held that it was important for parents to give their children proper upbringing in order to make them good husbands and wives in future.
“In the interest of peaceful living, the union between Adedayo and Sheriff Kanisuru ceases to be. Custody of the two children produced by the union is awarded to Adedayo. The health and education of the children should be prioritised,” Chief Odunade said.
The petitioner, Adedayo, had told the court that her husband is “wicked, troublesome, and heartless in nature.”
She said, “He destroyed my property and beat me mercilessly. He maltreats me. He doesn’t take care of the family. My parents contributed money to pay for his hospital bills when he was sick. He is always threatening to kill me with a broken bottle.”
Kanisuru denied beating Adedayo as she alleged. “My wife is a party goer and has no time to take care of the children. Whenever she leaves home in the morning, she returns home late at night. I don’t want her to kill me with her wayward way of life,” he said.
