The wife of a police officer, Donald Toyosi Iyabode on Tuesday petitioned a customary court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan to dissolve her six-year-old marriage with her husband, Donald Francis for his usual threat to kill her.
Toyosi told the court that her husband was fond of monitoring her movements and whenever he was not convinced about her whereabouts, he beats her into a stupor.

“My Lord, I am no more interested in this marriage. This man usually beat me and threatened to kill me with his official gun. He sent me out of the house at 1:00 am on many occasions. My family had visited our house to settle the issues for us more than ten times but immediately after they leave, he would beat me again. Separate us so I can have a rest of mind,” she begged.
The respondent, Donald said as a police officer, it is unreasonable for someone to allege that he threatened to kill her with a gun.
He admitted having some shortcomings but said he has realised his mistakes and promised to turn a new leaf.
Donald, who refused to enter the dock to confess his shortcomings as he claimed, said he could not afford to pay school fees and feeding allowances of his children because the federal government has not paid his allowances.
The President of the Court, Chief Odunade Ademola consequently dissolved the marriage, citing threat to life as the reason.
He granted custody of the two children produced by the union to the petitioner.
