Muslims in Russia banned from marriage with non-Muslims

Russia’s highest spiritual body of Muslims has decided to prohibit Muslims from marrying representatives of other religions.  Exceptions are possible only in certain isolated cases by decision of local mufti, according to Interfax.

Marriage of a Muslim man with a non-Muslim woman is permitted if she recognizes the existence of “one single God, accepts Jesus and Muhammad as God’s messengers and expresses her readiness to follow the prescriptions of the Holy Quran.”

The Spiritual Directorate considers it unacceptable for a Muslim woman to marry a man who does not consider himself part of the Muslim community, regardless of his views and beliefs.
