Muslim women group raises alarm over divorce rate in North

A Muslim women association called Sisters of Jannah has expressed worry over the high rate of divorce among Muslim couples in the North.

It expressed the worry at its 2nd Ramadan Lecture organised in Bauchi with the topic, “Issue of Divorce in Muslims homes/rights of neighbours.” 

The guest lecturer, Malama Khadija Ahmed, lamented that most parents usually ignored the instructions of the Holy Quran when giving their children out in marriage.

The cleric advised couples against selfishness, egocentricity, autocracy, and recalcitrance, and advocates tolerance, forgiveness, and resolving differences with reason, fairness and affection.

On his part, Malam Muhammad Suhailu Lawal said tolerance and forgiveness, and these qualities shown to neighbours are a demonstration of the moral values and virtues inbuilt into the worship of the one God-Allah and advised neighbours to be kind, helpful and offer gift to the neighbours. 

The patron of the association, Hajiya Maryam Garba Bagel, advised couples not to be self centered but to be fair and just in order to build a good marital home.
