The Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women has said that it would commensurate this year’s Annual World Hijab Day with a special lecture as part of measures to deepen the usage of hijab and stem the discrimination of ‘hijabites’ in parts of the country.

The World Hijab Day (WHD) which is being celebrated every February 1 is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013 to among others encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab.

A statement on Friday by Hajiya Rahmatu Musa Sani, said that the coalition is a convergence of several Muslim women groups in Abuja who came together to collaborate and strategize in a bid to promote and propagate issues of concern that affect the private and public life of women especially Muslim women.

“This year’s World Hijab Day comes up on Monday 1 February 2021 and the eight editions of the Annual World Hijab Day Lecture is slated for Saturday February 6, 2021 with the theme #Endhijabophobia”.

“The coalition has organised four editions of the World Hijab Day in Nigeria. It is also coordinating skill acquisition program and tutorial classes in IDP camps within the FCT.

“This program aims to enlighten the general public on the obligation on Muslim women to wear the hijab and the responsibility that is placed on women once they go out in hijab to display proper conduct and avoid all social vices,” Sani said.
