Muslim students have been urged to disregard teachings that portray Western education as incompatible with Islam, with stakeholders emphasising that all knowledge is valuable depending on how it is applied in daily life.
The call was made during the 16th Quiz and Essay Competition organised by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) at FOMWAN Schools in Minna, Niger State.
Addressing the gathering, Niger State Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Muhammad, represented by the Director of Test and Measurement in the ministry, Alhaji Garba Arab Abdullah, stressed the importance of Muslim youth using their education to advance Islamic values.
She also encouraged Islamic organisations to help cultivate young people into ambassadors of both Islam and Nigerian society.

Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council, represented by the Director of General Services, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Kuta, noted that both Western and Islamic education are essential for Nigeria’s development.
He added that a well-educated youth is key to creating a safer and more prosperous society.
In his remarks, Malam Shehu Usman Abubakar, National President of MSSN, said the competition was designed to foster the intellectual growth of Muslim youth and promote social interaction among Muslim students worldwide.
Malam Muhammad Isah, President of MSSN’s A Zone, explained in his welcome address that the annual competition aims to stimulate academic engagement among Muslim students.
The event featured various activities, including English and Arabic readings, debates, Quranic recitation, Islamic studies, general knowledge, and essay writing.
Participants came from 11 area units across Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Taraba, Zamfara, and Niger states. Prizes were awarded to winners in different categories.
