Kano based professional golfer Nura Abubakar Musa says he expects newly elected Director of Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) Samson Lawal to improve the sport in the next two years of his tenure or would be replaced for non-performance.
Lawal was elected at the body’s Annual General Meeting held at Golden Palm Hotel, Otukpo, Benue State at the weekend.
“We seriously hope that the new helmsman will do all in his capacity to improve the game across the country especially in our north west where there are still numerous challenges, if he does improve the sport then we will ask him to continue in two years’ time or else we’ll replace him” Musa told Golf Digest in a telephone chat.
Lawal, the Resident Professional Golfer of Lamingo Golf Club, Jos was declared the winner by the Returning Officer, Mrs Ify Uba for polling 60 votes against 43 votes by Dominic Andrew from IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
He will now take over from Festus Makelemi for a new term of two years.
Lawrence Matthew from Ikoyi Club 1938 defeated Segun Obamuwe and Martin Odoh to emerge as the Director of Operations, while Uche Eze from IBB Club polled 69 votes at the expense of Mike Ubi of Air Assault, Port Harcourt (21 votes) and Ladi Jaiyeola (13 votes) for the post of Tournament Director.
