Musa Isa: 10 long years after

But deep beneath its literary flavor lies a strong import of philosophical truism which only the wise can perceive. In case you feel confused, I only mean to say that the Hausas coined the above-cited adage simply for the undeniable fact that death and, if you like its accompanying injury, hardly vanishes completely.

While the lost one suddenly escapes our sight and his memory keeps fading away with the passage of time, we still find ourselves experiencing some nostalgic feelings and flashbacks of the time we shared.

Indeed, the memories of some of our deceased remain indelible on our minds because of the positive imprints in our lives. One of such persons is the late Musa Isa of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

Looking back at his media days, especially with the near-zero objectivity of most of today’s media practices in Nigeria, free-for-all blackmail, an irresistible nostalgia fills the mind of a vigilant observer.

The late Musa Isa exerted his full energy, sacrificed his time and dedicated his life to the delivery of noble, professional service. As his colleagues testified in the event of his demise, hard work was Musa’s watchword, objectivity his motto and resoluteness his guiding principle. In short, Musa Isa typified the persona of a committed journalist.

It is unfortunate that at the time of recounting his memorable past, the nation is mired in serious insecurity crises with Borno and Yobe States being the worst hit.

In fact, the night before this write-up, there were heavy explosions and gunfire between unknown gunmen and security forces in a number of northeastern states including Yobe. This is what the North is currently battling with.

In essence, the glorious life of Musa Isa reflected what a decent personality would live on earth. Depicted by family members as reserved though eloquent, as patient but neutral, and by colleagues as both adaptable and diligent, our brother’s attitude really needs to be inculcated in upcoming children.

Finally, man is mortal and his life is casual. It is, therefore, a lesson for us the living that we will also die one day. As we relive the memories of the past among us, we pray they find peace. Amen.

Abubakar is a brother to late Musa Isa.
