Murder of groom to be: Police arrest 4 suspects

The Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday arrested the alleged killers of a staff of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Olokose Oluwasola Ojo, who was gruesomely murdered by a gang of four for alleged ritual purposes.

Until his death, Ojo, in his early 30s was a staff at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) unit of UITH and was six days away from his wedding ceremony in Kwara State.

The attack was reportedly orchestrated by the kingpin of the gang and the deceased next-door neighbour, one Kazeem Mohammed who lured him to a bush in Patigi in the guise of helping him purchase three cows to be used for the event at the rate of N350,000.

He was however murdered and his body dismembered by the gang after withdrawing over N1.2m from his account with his ATM and demanded N12m from his wife to be, Ilori Oluwakemi.

His body was exhumed by the police and taken to the UITH mortuary for autopsy.

The police gave the names of the other three suspects as Mohammed Chatta, Jimoh Abdulateef and Madi Jeremiah all of whom are now in custody.

The police said that they will be charged to court once the judiciary workers call off their strike.

Speaking on the development, the Police Spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the suspects confessed in their statements that the victim was lured into the remote part of Patigi where he was told the cow he paid for was tied, but was shot on getting to the spot.

Okasanmi said: “The Commissioner of Police wishes to advise members of the public to always be on guard at all times, know who they do business with and also be conscious of their environment, as the society is filled with evil people.”

The deceased was said to have been buried in a shallow grave inside the bush and his head and arm severed to be used for alleged money ritual.
