Mudslide kills 4 siblings in Cross River

Mudslide has killed four children of the same parents in the Okangbang community near Nasarawa town in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State.

The incident was said to have occurred Sunday evening after a heavy downpour.

The flood brought down the house where the four children were having their dinner and buried them instantly.

The physically challenged father, Ndifreke Nkanta, confirmed the incident and said his two other children in the building at the time sustained varying degrees of injury and were admitted in a hospital.

He said, “I have lost four out of my six children who were in the house that collapsed on them as a result of the mudslide. They were eating when the house collapsed on them.

“My other two children are in critical conditions in the hospital. I did not take even a pin from the house when the flood swept it away.

“I have no money even to pay the bills for the surviving two. I have nowhere to live. I appeal for public support. I need a house. I need a job. I need food to give to these two in the hospital.”

The Chairman of the community, Mr Asanga Donatus, also confirmed the incident and appealed for the government’s swift intervention to save lives and the community.

“As I speak to you, the father of the dead children has no money to even pay for treatment of the two in hospital, even though he is a petty trader.

“The condition of our neighbourhood is really precarious and needs the government’s swift intervention to avert the further collapse of houses and losses of lives,” he stressed.
