“Participants, both male and female from over 20 African countries have already submitted their entries to be a part of the competition as registration ended on 15th of August.

“The festivities will be kicking off on September 13, with the qualifying rounds taking place from September 13-14 at the prestigious Balmoral Event Centre of the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“After the qualifying rounds, the best 16 male and eight female freestyle athletes in Africa will do battle at the grand finale on September 15 in a bid to become the first African male and female Freestyle Football Champion.

“The final event will host international freestyle professionals, including Guinness World Record Holder, Iya Traore and female freestyler denizen, Raquel Benetti from Brazil.

“Prizes worth over $50,000 (Fifty Thousand Dollars) will be up for grabs, a Brand New Saloon Car as well as qualification and sponsorship for the global championship,” the statement read.

Also speaking on the competition, MTN Nigeria’s General Manager, Brand and Communications, Richard Iweanoge, said: “It is no secret that football is a second religion to many Nigerians, and to some, a first religion – a way of life and an ideology which guides their philosophy on how to live.

“We can be rest assured that the maiden event of the Africa Freestyle Championship would be a great one, fueled by the passion of Nigerians and the dedication which has always been shown by MTN Nigeria in making sure their passions are lived and attained.”
