MTN fine: N/Assembly probe delaying payment – Minister

The Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, yesterday said the ongoing investigation into roles played by the ministries of justice and communication on the N50 billion paid by MTN was delaying resolution of the issue.
Shittu spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the ongoing Tech in Government Summit organised by the National Association of Information Technology Professionals in Public and Civil Service (NITPCS) in Abuja.
The minister said the investigation by the legislators was responsible for the inability of the government to set up any negotiating team two months after MTN made the N50bn payment.
He said: “The National Assembly is investigating the matter. Some of us do not want to make comments because we believe our comments may alter the outcome of the investigation. As you have seen, the process of legislative investigation is still ongoing and I believe when the investigation is concluded the matter will be put behind us”.
