MTN has donated 604,800 Johnson and Johnson (J and J) COVID-19 vaccine doses to Nigeria.

Receiving the vaccines yesterday in Abuja, Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, said the donation meant potential 604,800 fully vaccinated Nigerians.

He said: “The vaccines are here, yet there are still many of us who are hesitant to be vaccinated. We seem to be having the wrong information or impression that COVID-19 is no longer existing or it’s no longer a problem. Those of us who may be having this impression are wrong.”

He said over 47 million eligible persons in Nigeria had so far received the vaccines, adding that as of September 14, a total of 47,172,937 eligible persons had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine representing 42.2 percent of the eligible population.

He said 34,242,083 persons had been fully vaccinated 3,678,412 of who had received their booster doses.

Amina Danbata, Regional General Manager, MTN, said the donation followed an agreement signed by the organisation in conjunction with the African Union, and AVAT to provide vaccines for the continent and Nigeria.
