Residents and motorists have called on the federal government to commit more fund to the dualisation of the Benin-Auchi-Okene road to ease the suffering of road users.
They made the call during the inspection of the road by the the Director Highway South South in the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FWH), Engr.Godwin Eke,
One of the residents, Abubakar Sadiq, commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for embarking on the project but appealed for improved funding to speed up its completion.
He said the number of road crashes being recorded on the road during the ember months had drastically reduced due to the dualization and repair of the existing road.
Also speaking Austin John, a motorist, who also commended the federal government decried the slow pace of work.
“The dualisation is good, this Ewu hill is an accident zone but due to the dualisation it has drastically reduced. By the time the road is completed it will reduce accidents and the hours spent on the road.’’
He called on the government to make fund available to the contractors for early completion of the road.
Speaking during an inspection, Engr. Eke, assured of the federal government’s commitment to early completion of the project.
He noted that though the construction may be slow but that the work is progressing considerably.
Engr. Oke, who attributed the slow pace of work on the road to paucity of funds, however, said funding has improved and that the contractors handling the project will speed up work.
“This project was not awarded by this administration and yet we have to continue the work unabated. Hopefully as funding improves I can assure you that government would complete the project,”.
He appealed to the people to be patient with the government as it is doing everything possible to complete the project soon.
