Some motorists and residents in Kano have lamented the suspension of works at Kureken-Sani bypass connecting passengers to Wudil-Maiduguri federal highway thereby increasing accident cases on the road.
The road project, which has been suspended for over a month, was started sequel to the closure and ongoing construction work at the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, situated at Hotoro NNPC Mega Station roundabout.
Kano Chronicle gathered that the construction of the road took off in order to provide an alternative route via the bypass for motorists traveling out of Kano to any axis through Wudil-Maiduguri federal highway.
Motorists and residents along the route expressed dissatisfaction over the inconveniences, which the suspension of the road construction have caused, saying it has created more room for accidents as well as polluting the environment.
Kabiru Mustapha, a motorist who lives around the area, said with the suspension of the construction, accidents occur more frequently because of dust.
Mallam Sani Muhammad, a businessman at Kureken-Sani said since the beginning of the construction, businesses in the area had been affected.
Zangina Abdullahi, a nearby resident who passes through Kureken-Sani every day, said he had witnessed about seven accidents in recent times on the road.
The residents, therefore, called on the government to order the contractors back to the site and ensure speedy completion of the project.
