Motorist crushes FRSC officer in Kuje

By Abubakar Sadiq Isah An officer with the Kuje unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Uchefu Chris, was last Tuesday morning crushed by a motorist at Kuje town. A witness said the incident happened around 11:21am after a man driving an unmarked Nissan SUV heading towards Tipper Garage ran over the deceased. He said the late officer was controlling traffic when the driver ran over him. “It was so pathetic the way the officer died, because the elderly man who was driving the car could have avoided running over him,” he said. Another witness said the attitude of the driver almost provoked some sympathisers, especially cyclists, who surged to lynch him, but he was quickly arrested by the police. He said the officer died on the way to hospital. He said the vehicle had been impounded by the FRSC unit command. When contacted, the Kuje unit commander of the FRSC, Mr. O. S Gbo Gbo, confirmed the incident, saying the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Abuja National Hospital morgue. He said the remains of the deceased would be conveyed to Benue State, where he hailed from, next week for burial. Efforts to get the reaction of the Kuje Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were not successful, but a police officer confirmed that the driver would soon be charged to court after a psychiatric text was carried out on him. “We are looking at the possibility of referring him to a psychiatric hospital to check his mental status because the way he drove and killed the officer was shocking,” he said.
